What makes a Daylily a Barth Daylily?

With the aim of creating flowers which exceed the expectation of the every day flower, Barth Daylilies are meticulously bred for beauty and resilience. Paying close attention to what each parent gives to the offspring, Nicholas Barth and Jeff O'Donal focus on the characteristics to acheive the desired outcome. Nick Barth

The Barth Family

In the the small town of Alna, Maine Dr. Joseph Barth began breeding daylilies in 1952. His pioneering work with tetraploid hybrids resulted in the longest continual breeding program in the United States.

The introduction of the Barth Daylilies to the public began with Dr. Barth and Tranquil Lake Nursery in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. You can still find some of the first Barth varieties there today.

After the passing of Dr. Joe Barth in 1988, his son Nicholas carried on with his work. Now partnered with Jeff O'Donal they continue to strive for the most perfect flowers.

Jeff O'Donal

In 2010 Jeff O'Donal acquired the rights of the Barth Daylily program. Known for being the long time President and Owner of O'Donal's Nursery in Gorham, Maine, his devotion to horticulture is unmatched.

Since purchasing McSherry's Nursery in Conway New Hampshire in 2010, Jeff now splits his time between the nursery and his Daylilies making them available to his valued customers. When  the spring comes you are able to find the Barth Daylily collection at both O'Donals and McSherry's, or you can contact Jeff directly.
